We Make It Matter

We Make It Matter (“WMIM,” “we,” “us”) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Foster City, California. We offer peer support for people who are burnt out and exhausted.
We ask people to trust us with difficult things. That trust starts with being plain about what we collect and what we do with it. This page is written to be read, not to protect us.

What we collect
When you join our mailing list, register for an event, or join a waitlist
Your name and email address. Sometimes a phone number, if you give us one. If you tell us about dietary needs, accessibility requirements, or anything else you’d like us to know for an event, we hold that too.
When you donate
Donations are processed by Zeffy. We see your name, email address, and the amount you gave. We never see or store your card or bank details — those go directly to Zeffy and their payment processors.

Whatever you choose to put in your message.
When you use the WMIM app
The app is built to keep your private things private. Your journal entries are encrypted. Your mood entries belong to you. We do not read them, and we do not sell them. The app collects only what it needs to work — your account details and the data you enter yourself.
When you visit wmim.org
Standard website information: pages visited, approximate location, browser and device type. This is aggregate traffic data, and we use it only to understand which pages people find useful.
What we don’t collect
We do not ask for and do not want health records, diagnoses, treatment history, or clinical information. WMIM is not a healthcare provider. We do not provide therapy, treatment, or diagnosis, and nothing we run is a clinical service.
What we do with it
- To send you the things you asked for — event invitations, updates, and our newsletter
- To run our programmes, including knowing who is coming and what they need
- To acknowledge and record donations, and to meet our reporting obligations as a 501(c)(3)
- To answer you when you get in touch
- To understand, in aggregate, what’s working — how many people came, which pages get read
That is the entire list. We do not build profiles, we do not score people, and we do not make decisions about anyone using automated systems.
What we never do
We do not sell your information. Not to anyone, for any amount, ever.
We do not rent, trade, or share your information with organizations for their own marketing.
We do not tell anyone you came. Attendance at a WMIM gathering, retreat, or workshop is not disclosed to your employer, your family, or anyone else — including when an employer has paid for a workshop. Employers who book workplace sessions receive attendance numbers only, never names or anything anyone said.
Who else touches your information
We use a small number of service providers to operate. They handle data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or in the rare case where we believe someone is at immediate risk of serious harm.
Your choices
Unsubscribe from any email using the link at the bottom of it. It works immediately.
Ask us what we hold about you, and we will tell you.
Ask us to correct it, and we will.
Ask us to delete it, and we will — except where we are required to keep donation records for tax and reporting purposes.
Delete your app data from within the app, or by emailing us.
To make any of these requests, email info@wemakeitmatter.org. We aim to respond within seven days and will not make it difficult.
How long we keep things
Mailing list information: until you unsubscribe, and then we remove you.
Event information: for the event, and for a short period afterwards.
Donation records: as long as required for tax and nonprofit reporting.
App data: until you delete it or close your account.
Children
WMIM’s programmes are for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.
Security
We use reputable providers, encryption where appropriate, and limit access to the small number of people who need it. No system is perfect, and we won’t pretend otherwise — but we treat what you share with us as something you trusted us with, because it is.
Changes to this policy
If we change this page in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and tell our mailing list.
